On Saturday, September 17th, the Sonoma Trails organization has scheduled a trail work party. Sarah Reid, SCHC Trail advisor is putting out a call to all equestrians to get out of the saddle, get out there and show the cyclists and hikers what the equestrians are made of to help FINISH the work on North Burma in Annadel! Go ahead and take that as a challenge from this here equestrian who has showed up at every work day so far.
Here is what to expect:
We always suggest that everyone trade off doing all the different tasks so no-one gets tired doing any one thing or gets sore or injured. Everyone takes breaks. Everyone works to their own level and abilities. We need everyone. Some of our hardest workers have been over 65, so don't use age as an excuse...
Here is what we will be doing, and you can choose to do any or all of it in any chunk of time you want to put in doing any one of these things during the 9AM-1PM work party (we provide training and tools):
hauling crushed rock and drain rock in wheelbarrows
spreading rock with hand tools
tamping rock
spraying water on drain rock
spreading cloth, setting cloth staples in the ground with a mallot
setting rocks in a trench
filling smaller rocks in between the larger rocks
shaping the hillside with pickamattock
shaping drainage
moving dirt with a shovel
RSVP to www.sonomatrails.org so Ken Wells knows you're coming!
So if you are not attending Dressage in the Wine Country, try hob-nobing with fellow park user and let them know equestrians care.
